Eilat is way to the south by the red sea, far from the Gaza strip. I spent 3 free days in Eilat last year. I found Eilat to be very safe. Lots of tourists from all over the world. I was also amazed to see so many American chains of restaurants in Eilat. Others will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe shopping in Eilat is tax (vat) free.
